As the largest natural gas transporter and distributor in China, PetroChina boasts extraordinary resource advantage and dominates in domestic natural gas market. The backbone gas pipeline network has taken shape, and the regional gas supply networks have formed in northwest, southwest, north China, central China and Yangtze River delta areas, which helps with securing favorable opportunities in the booming domestic gas market. By December 31, 2006, the natural gas pipeline owned and operated by PetroChina totaled 20,590km in length, accounting for 77.8% of national total. In 2006, the sales volume of natural gas approximated to 38.42 billion cubic meters, or 73.6% of national total, up 29.0% compared to the year 2005. In the first half of 2007, the sales volume of natural gas approximated to 22.3 billion cubic meters, up 20.5% on a year-on-year basis. In addition, PetroChina has taken the lead in pipeline transportation of crude oil and oil product. By the end of 2006, the crude oil and oil products pipelines owned and operated by PetroChina totaled 9,620km and 2,413km in length respectively.
Development Plan Following the principle of “expanded resources, perfected pipeline networks, uniformly planned production and distribution and guaranteed security”, PetroChina will improve gas transmission and distribution networks as well as gas storage and peak shaving methods, to enhance the security of gas supply; coordinate gas production and marketing, streamline gasfield development, pipeline operation and marketing, and realize overall balanced resource development, to moderately expand new market with emphasis on the northeast and central south of China. In addition, the Company will quicken the construction and reconstruction of domestic crude oil pipelines, accelerate the construction of imported crude oil pipelines, to initially build the backbone crude oil network; reinforce the construction of oil products pipelines, and establish a multi-regional oil products pipeline network for west-east gas transmission and north-south oil transportation, to improve oil product transportation conditions and establish market competitiveness.
